The Astonishing Success of Disney’s Marvel Movies

The news of Whedon stepping down after “Avengers 2” brings questions. Rumor has it that the Russo brothers, the directors of “Captain America 2”, will direct “Avengers 3” and thus take the reigns over the main film series.

This should be slightly unnerving to fanboys. Has there ever been a franchise on a roll like this? Every Disney Marvel movie has been a home run. But “Star Wars” had it’s ewoks. The upcoming storylines look extremely promising. “Avengers 2” feels sure to be a hit just off of the good will of the first film alone. “Captain America 3” deals with the civil war storyline, which was a very popular event in the comics. It will also feature Robert Downey, jr., which is a pretty big deal. The future seems incredibly bright.

What has been truly shocking is Disney’s ability to take a fourth-tier franchise like “Guardians of the Galaxy” and turn it into an absolutely fantastic and successful film in its’ own right.

Are Employees Responsible for the Company’s PR Image?

What amount of responsibility do employees carry with regard to their company’s image? Recently, a cook (now ex-cook), Shawn Peterson, at a small, local cafe in Utah (Leslie’s Family Tree) posted a picture of a dead cop onto his personal Facebook page. Without question, this picture stirred up a bit of an outrage among the local community and social media users like Tom Rothman around the nation.

Social media is a breeding ground for backlash in the right environments. This event is more than enough to put this cafe out of business. So who’s responsible here? The business or the individual? We can go around and around for days, but in the end, if the business is affected then it doesn’t matter. All employees carry the responsibility to represent the company in some sense.

Is Twitter Dying?

The truth and reality of most social media tech business today is that they live and die by the sword. And by sword, we mean the rumors and social opinion of said companies, and Rothman knows that story all too well. Twitter is no different in that it’s market price is directly correlated with the public opinion of the company. Dick Costolo, the CEO of Twitter, has been a public target board for people to throw their insults at.

Costolo has been publicly criticized by investors for not being able to properly lead and manage his company. According to The Wall Street Journal, Costolo has struggled in the past to even define what he envisions for the future of the social media company. And because of this indecisiveness, the stock price a turn for the worst and hit a low point.

However, the brave CEO has taken the challenge head on and sat down with New York University to discuss what he thinks the future holds for Twitter and to redefine his strategy with the company. He has taken an approach that fellow tech CEO, and Apple founder, Steve Jobs took with his company. “I’m just the person who reiterates the main vision of the company” says Jobs and it seems Costolo has followed suit.

He told students that his main goal at this point is to inspire and motivate employees for the future and not let social opinion change those vision.
