Scott Rocklage has a very impressive educational background. He has a bachelor’s degree in science from the University of California and a PhD. in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While at MIT, Dr. Rocklage worked closely with Richard Schrock. Schrock won the Nobel Prize in 2005.
Dr. Rocklage conducted his groundbreaking research in Schrock’s laboratory. His work has been published in over 100 peer-reviewed publication. Rocklage has more than 30 patents. Has helped to get FDA approval for Cubicin, Omniscan and Teslascan and has 6 other drug candidates which are in clinical testing.
The Boston-based doctor is also board chairman of Achaogen, Relypsa, Sempru, Cidara Therapeutics, Kinestral and Rennovia. Rocklage is also on the boards of Variation, Pulmatrix, Wverx, Pulmatrix and Epirus.
He was chairman and CEO of Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Nycomed Salutar’s president and CEO and had various leadership positions in research and development at Salutar and Catalytica. Dr. Rocklage was also board chairman of Novira and executive chairman of Ilpsa and Miikana.
In 2003 Dr. Scott Rocklage joined 5AM Ventures as a venture partner. He became managing partner the next year. His background in entrepreneurship and biochemical research has proven invaluable to the company’s success and growth.
Part of his strategic leadership has been in ensuring the company hires specialists in business operations, finance, science, medicine and law. Having people with these diverse backgrounds on staff enables 5AM Venture help the companies in which they invest to succeed.
