Sam Tabar is an attorney and financial strategist based out of New York City. He is an honors graduate from Oxford University, earning a Bachelor degree in Arts. He then went on to Columbia Business School, where he worked as an Associate Editor of the Columbia Business Law Review. After graduation from Columbia in September of 2001, he became an Associate for the prestigious law firm Skadden, Arps, Slater, Meagher, & Flom LLP, where he counseled their clients on hedge fund formation and structure, investment management agreements, private placement memoranda, side letters, employment issues, and regulatory and compliance issues.
In 2004, Tabar was hired at Sparx Group/PMA Investment Advisors as counsel and ultimately was promoted to Managing Director and Co-Head of Business Development. While there, he managed all aspects of global marketing and investor relations for a multi-billion dollar hedge fund. He also created a strategic marketing plan that targeted institutional investors, large family offices, and ultra high-net-worth clients from around the world. He provided over 2,000 potential qualified investors, and introduced an additional 400. Furthermore, he helped the firm raise $1.2 billion in assets under his management.
Sam Tabar was named Director and Head of Capital Strategy for the Asia-Pacific region of Bank of America Merrill Lynch in February of 2011. There he counseled the firm’s hedge fund clients and provided introductions to investors including endowments, foundations, pensions, funds of funds, and large family offices. He also managed the capital allocations cycle between fund managers and investors. While he was there he brought in over 1,250 institutional investors.
Thumbtack tells that in September of 2012, Tabar went on to become the Director of Adanac LLC, BVI where he invested in properties and startups like THINX, a startup company that helps women in America and Africa by providing fashionable underwear with reusable cloth sanitary pads to support women’s menstruation and incontinence, who would otherwise miss work or school.
In 2013, Sam Tabar joined Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP as a senior associate catering to hedge funds. There he counseled clients on fund information and structure, investment management agreements, private placement memoranda, side letters, employment issues, and regulatory and compliance issues.
Sam Tabar is fluent in written and spoken English and French, and functionally speaks Japanese. Also, he is interested in hosting and traveling.
